The solidity of being

The solidity of being

All the streets going up from the harbour are ridiculously steep. This is one of the gentler slopes. I feel bad for the rickshaw drivers lugging cruise ship tourists around. "Top of the hill please, and make it snappy!"

I really like all the new additions. You capture such a simple setting at an angle that conveys so much of...something that defies words. I've always loved the effects of well-shot black and white photos. You do an amazing job.

Aw, thanks Braleigh. I appreciate it. Saint John is definitely a place that is easy to see in black and white. I just read an article about photographer Andrew McKim. He says, "I photograph colour as if it were in shades of grey. I don't relate well to bright colours because I wasn't brought up in a place that had them. On some days Saint John is all browns and greys." 106 fog days a year will do that I guess.
